- Across 342'678 answers in French, Reddit is cited 0.75 times per 100 answers. Across 42'318 answers in English, it is cited 1.51 times per 100 answers: its share is 2.0 times higher in English.
- Reddit ranks 9th of the 37 tracked platforms cited in French, and 4th of the 37 tracked platforms cited in English. In the ranking of all cited domains, it appears 23rd in French and 4th in English; that ranking undercounts Reddit (see the method).
- In French, the models citing Reddit most are Gemini (1.64) and Grok (1.53); in English, Perplexity (2.19) and Gemini (2.07). Claude cites Reddit in none of its 21'591 answers in French, nor in any of its 956 answers in English.
- Reddit's share varies strongly from one month to the next. In September 2026, the last month of the snapshot, it is 0.27 in French and 0.68 in English. Its highest monthly level: June 2026 in French (2.65), July 2026 in English (3.58).

Method
Where the queries come from
The queries are the ones Sorank asks AI assistants every week to track the visibility of its clients' websites. For each site, an AI writes questions from a description of the business, in the language of its market, without ever naming a brand: finding a provider, understanding an offer, weighing its benefits, comparing options, judging quality. Clients can also add their own questions. Twenty examples, rewritten generically, are listed below.
Each question is sent through the APIs of the five models, with web search enabled. Claude and Grok are only queried for part of the clients, hence their lower volumes.
The instruction asks the model to flag each company it recommends and to write, right after its name, the addresses of the pages that support it.
What counts as a citation
A citation is a domain found among the addresses the model wrote for a recommended company (the www. prefix is removed). Only addresses attached to a recommended company count. Each domain is counted once per company and per answer: a domain cited for three companies in one answer counts three times.
The share of a domain is its number of citations divided by the number of answers, times 100. Since a domain can be counted for several companies in the same answer, it reads as a number of citations per 100 answers, not as a percentage of answers.
How domains are grouped into platforms
38 large platforms are tracked separately (Reddit, YouTube, Wikipedia, LinkedIn and others). All their subdomains are grouped under their name: Reddit gathers reddit.com and its subdomains. Other domains stay distinct: fr.semrush.com and semrush.com are two rows. Microsoft and Apple are exceptions: their subdomains stay separate in the domain ranking.
In the domain ranking, two addresses of the same platform on two subdomains (trustpilot.com and fr.trustpilot.com) count twice for the same company. In the monthly platform figures, they count once.
Duplicate addresses of the same site are merged: service-public.fr with service-public.gouv.fr and entreprendre.service-public.fr with entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr (the former address redirects to the new one).
Excluded domains
Google's domains (google.com, google.fr, vertexaisearch.cloud.google.com, googleusercontent.com, googleapis.com, gstatic.com and the like) are removed: they are technical links, such as Gemini's redirects, not sources.
The websites of Sorank's clients are removed from every ranking, as domains and as brand names; the domains below them move up. This removal takes no answer out of the sample.
Language
The language of an answer is the language of the market of the analysed website: fr-FR, fr-BE, fr-CH and the like for French, en-US, en-GB and the like for English.
Calculations
Reddit's share over the period comes from its complete monthly figures: the sum, month by month, of its share times the number of answers, divided by the total number of answers. Its rank among platforms applies the same calculation to every tracked platform.
The ranking of all domains adds up the published monthly rankings, which keep the 25 first domains of each month: a domain missing from a month's ranking is not counted that month. Ranks and counts in that ranking are therefore minimums for domains whose presence varies, such as Reddit: 1'551 citations in the French ranking, against about 2'560 in its complete figures.
Limits
- The queries come from the websites tracked by Sorank's clients, not from a representative panel of searches. Some sectors therefore weigh more than others: from July to September 2026, the Software and Marketing sectors account for 16.8% of the answers in English, against 14.0% in French. The English ranking starts with Amazon, Trustpilot and YouTube.
- Sorank's own website, which sells search optimization software, is excluded from the figures: 7'825 answers in English removed, from July to September 2026. From February to June 2026, its answers can no longer be separated (the history of those months only keeps totals): every answer in English of those months is removed, 21'182 answers, 6'814 of which came from sorank.com. Those months only count in French.
- We measure the addresses the models write in their answers when asked to support their recommendations. This is neither what they were trained on nor the pages they read without citing them. These addresses are not checked one by one, and answers obtained through the APIs can differ from those of the consumer apps.
- The English sample is 8.1 times smaller than the French one. 6 English months rest on fewer than 1'000 answers: their monthly shares vary strongly.
- Claude and Grok are only queried for part of the clients: their figures rest on fewer answers (21'591 and 21'132 in French, 956 and 906 in English) and on a different group of clients than the other models.
- Raw queries and answers are only kept for a few weeks: older months survive only as monthly totals, computed at the time, and cannot be recomputed.

The full list of queries, the raw answers and the names, domains or brands of Sorank's clients are not published.
Corrections
- 2 October 2026: The language of the answers of July to September 2026 is now the language of the market of the analysed website. Before, an automatic detection on the text of the query counted part of the French answers as English.
